So I bought this nice multipack of the Rivers of London books and just meant to take a quick look at the first few paes but ended up re-reading the first and have now munched through the second one too…
This is the Jazz one, where we get to learn a lot more about Peter’s family and Peter learns a bit more about what it means to be a wizard. We also come across the main protagonist for the next few books in the form of the Faceless man. We’ve lost track of Beverley Brook who is up country with the old man of the river, which is convenient as Peter embarks on a doomed affair with another supernatural being (it doesn’t end well, as you might expect.)
Another easy read, quite fun, with excellent explanations of police procedure (both official and unofficial) and has some good action scenes. Having listened to Peter F. Hamilton and Adrian Tchaikovsky in conversation I’ve come to realise the importance of up-front world building and Ben clearly knows this too as almost everything we need to know was already well established in the first book and we only get small increments here - the world is fully formed and very well realised. Always worth a re-read.
